Cuando se hace un viaje, se vive más tiempo en los trayectos que en los destinos. Ese lapso inevitable, cada vez más corto, suele emplearse para conciliar el sueño, añorar la ciudad abandonada, evadir la preocupación del arribo, o imaginar el regreso. Al mirar por la ventana, un desfile de árboles, casas, torres de energía, fábricas, señales del progreso, aparecen y desaparecen en una sucesión que solo termina para confirmar el final del recorrido.

El tema de estudio de la presente investigación, es la experiencia visual del paisaje que se vive cuando se viaja en un tren. Para esto analizaremos el acto de viajar, la transformación del concepto de paisaje, su relación con la ventana por la cual se observa, y lo que sucede cuando esta experiencia es representada y transmitida a través de medios con pantallas o “screen media”. Para desarrollar el tema planteado, analizaremos realizaciones audiovisuales como clips musicales, videos cortos, registros de lapsos de tiempo, y escenas de películas donde el paisaje en movimiento es mostrado a través de una ventana.

The Train Journey: The view of the landscape from the window (work in progress)

When there is a journey, the time spent on roads and rails seems longer than the time spent at destinations. During this inevitable time lapse, shorter each time, the city left behind is missed, the arrival is concerning, and the return is imagined. When looking through the window, trees, buildings, energy towers, factories and signs of progress appear and disappear in a parade that only ends when the trip concludes.

The object of this research is the visual experience of the landscape seen in a train journey. We will analyze the act of travelling, the transformation of the concept of landscape, the relationship with the window for which the landscape is seen through, and what occurs when the travelling experience is represented and transmitted through screen media. In order to carry out the project, we will study audio visual works such as video clips, short films, time lapses and movie scenes where the moving landscape appears through a window.

The main goal of this Project is to analyze what happens when an image which is part of the travelling experience (in our case the landscape through the window), is viewed through other mediums. Secondly, to identify in what way transformations in technology change and give new meanings to the everyday practice of travelling. Thirdly, to consider in what way an everyday practice can substitute another and modify a visual experience.
